HEALTH

The aim of the Health and Life Skills Program of Studies is to enable students to make well-informed, healthy choices and to develop behaviours that contribute to the well-being of self and others.

The Health Curriculum is organized around 3 general outcomes:

  • Wellness: encouraging students to make responsible and informed choices to maintain health and to promote safety for self and others.
  • Relationships: addressing the development of effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate responsibility, respect and caring in order to establish and maintain healthy interactions
  • Life Learning: facilitating student use of available resources to effectively manage and explore life roles and career opportunities and challenges.

The Health curriculum provides for the teaching of a unit on human sexuality.  Parents have the option of withdrawing their child from this portion of the course.

The delivery of the Health curriculum is sometimes integrated into other core courses.

Evaluation, in health, will be based on participation in class discussions and activities as well as projects, exercises, quizzes and tests.
